KAPP Heat Transfer Engineers, together with UreaKnowHow.com developed The KAPP CO2 CHILLER, which cools the feed CO2 temperature without using cold energy sources from the existing ammonia and urea plant. This paper will describe and evaluate three options for The KAPP CO2 CHILLER. All three options lead to extreme short pay back times as will be demonstrated in the paper. FIORDA is launched!

FIORDA is launched!

FIORDA – the Fertilizer Industry Operational Risks Database,  is created for collecting and sharing process safety and reliability information among participating companies in the fertilizer industry.

How you can benefit from FIORDA?

  • FIORDA can identify patterns and trends of similar safety and reliability issues based on repetitive problems occurring in the same plant units or equipment and alert operators to the occurrence of these events,
  • Through FIORDA database, operators can compare the experiences from different plants such as frequency of an event, severity of the outcome and applied corrective actions,
  • Corrective actions developed by other operators may be less costly than those tried in the absence of this information,
  • FIORDA members can develop their own internal incidents database using FIORDA free provided software HAZARDO®.

UreaKnowHow.com attended the 2nd European Power to Ammonia® Conference

UreaKnowHow.com attended the 2nd European Power to Ammonia® Conference

On May 17 & 18 the 2nd European Conference on Sustainable Ammonia Solutions was organised again by Proton Ventures in Rotterdam. Using ammonia for storing and transporting efficiently green energy from solar and wind is one side of the coin. The other side is that ammonia can also be used as a CO2 free fuel in several fairly simple manners. Currently costs may be high but several niche applications become economically viable and are under implementation.
Considering the giant size of the energy market it is just a matter of time that the fertilizer industry will start to notice the effects of these developments towards a carbon free energy carrier.    Click here for more information

UreaKnowHow.com contributed to the 2017 AICHE Ammonia Safety Conference in Brooklyn

Last week during the AICHE Ammonia Safety Conference in Brooklyn, UreaKnowHow.com contributed to this important and reputable conference. Together with Tech Safety Group (www.techsafetygroup.com), a Technical Paper was prepared discussing the potential hazards involved in a 316L Urea Grade Urea Reactor.
These potential hazards are listed in an Open Source Global Risk Register.
The Risk Register is a collection of possible risks that can occur in such a urea reactor and includes the related mitigation measures: 43 hazard risks are identified and 39 recommendations are defined. These recommendations are applicable in any phase of the life of such a reactor, starting in the design phase, via the fabrication phase, construction phase, operation, shut down and start up phase including its maintenance (for example which points to inspect in a urea reactor).
This list forms a perfect learning tool about why certain operating and maintenance procedures are done as they are done. So one learns Why… instead of only What …. Go to Risk Registers
