The economy of the technical production of urea from ammonia and carbon dioxide is substantially improved if unconverted reactants are recycled at the synthesis pressure. Separation of these reactants from the reactor effluents can be effected by stripping with carbon dioxide gas. The high pressure of the stripped vapours allows condensation at elevation temperature (150-170 degC). Thanks to this thermal level all of the condensation heat developed can be recovered as steam.
